100 Paintings Showcase Genesee Valley

This year’s Genesee Valley 100 art exhibition is now open. Seventy-five artists participated in this year’s event, creating 100 original works of art that feature the Genesee Valley. These artists come from throughout the region, representing 29 different townships.

The project, organized by Genesee Valley Conservancy, aims to draw attention to the local landscapes the organization is working to protect: habitat, open space, and farmland of the Genesee Valley region.

Each piece can be viewed online where sales also take place to support the local artist and the land conservation efforts of Genesee Valley Conservancy. The show can be viewed in person in Perry at Silver Lake Viewing Project where you can inspect each piece individually and you can step back to view the large multi-wall mosaic that results from this large collection as they hang together.

Artists are given just two rules as part of this show. They had to use a 12×12 canvas or paper to create their work – so the collection of 100 works will hang in the brewery on the available wall space – and their piece must be inspired by the Genesee Valley. Each year a different medium is chosen to theme the show: photography, painting, fiber arts. This year, organizers did not choose the specific medium to use, but instead challenged artists with the theme duotone.

Artists were asked to submit a work that used just one or two colors, and shades thereof, for their work. The result is a unique version of this show. While most artists chose to paint their submission, there are also photography, fiber art, and mixed media pieces in this year’s collection.

Paintings are on view at www.geneseevalleyconservancy.org starting November 13th at 5pm where all sales will take place.

In person viewing is at Silver Lake Brewing Project, 14 Borden Ave, Perry during their regular business hours beginning Wednesday November 13th at 5pm. The brewery is open Wednesday and Thursdays from 5-9pm, Friday and Saturday noon-10pm, and Sunday from noon-6pm. The show will be on display through the end of 2025.

Genesee Valley Conservancy is a nationally accredited non-profit conservation organization working to protect the habitat, open space and farmland in the Genesee River watershed. Over 39,706 acres of natural habitat and productive farm and forest land have been conserved by Genesee Valley Conservancy in partnership with private landowners. The organization also owns nature preserves open to the public for recreation and education. For more information visit www.geneseevalleyconservancy.org
