A Letter re: Action

Seneca Lake Guardian Continues Environmental Preservation Initiatives in 2024

Dear Friends,

A Happy New Year to All. We’re hitting the ground running in January!

We have been informed that the Seneca Meadows Landfill is trying to get resolutions of support for its expansion in every Town in Seneca County. They were successful in getting a resolution of support from the Town of Varick last month, and aim to get more this month.

We need all hands on deck to counter this effort. If you live in or own property in Seneca County, or know someone who does, please get the word out and show up at the next Town Board meetings listed below. If you can’t be there in person, please send them an email (let us know if you need email addresses and talking points!).

Our aim is to get NO MORE supporting resolutions from Seneca County, but even better, let’s work to get Resolutions in OPPOSITION, instead. We will gladly guide you with talking points, a sample email to send, and a sample resolution opposing the landfill’s expansion. Just send us an email to this address senecalakeguardian@gmail.com and we’ll reply with guidelines!

To quote the wonderful Dr. Seuss: “Don’t Be A Shirker! Get Everyone Out” for this important effort.

Here is the schedule for the upcoming board meetings in Seneca County:

  • Covert- Monday 1/8 7PM
  • Fayette- Thursday 1/11 7PM
  • Interlaken- Thursday 1/11 6:30PM
  • Junius- Wednesday 1/17 6:00
  • Lodi- Thursday 1/11 7PM
  • Ovid- Wednesday 1/10 7PM
  • Romulus- Wednesday 1/17 6:00
  • Seneca Falls- Monday 1/8 6PM
  • Tyre- Tuesday 1/16
  • Waterloo Village – Thursday 1/25
  • Waterloo Town – Monday 1/22 5:30pm

Additional updates: We still have yet to reach our matching grant challenge! An anonymous donor will match any donation up to $20,000! This is an excellent opportunity to help us continue our work despite mounting costs. Know anyone with an upcoming birthday or anniversary? Consider making a donation gift in their honor! All donations are tax-deductible.

Vice President Yvonne Taylor will be presenting information about the Seneca Meadows Landfill in Skaneateles this coming Thursday, January 11th. Location: Skaneateles High School Auditorium 49 E Elizabeth St, Skaneateles, NY 13152 Time: 7:00 pm

If anyone wishes to join us for a bus trip to Albany on Monday January 22nd, please RSVP at senecalakeguardian@gmail.com for more information about an action packed, exciting day.

Together, we can make a difference. Let’s do this!
