Five Exhibitions Presented by the Arts Council for Wyoming County

THAT SHOULD NOT BE MISSED

Join ACWC on February 24th at 6:30 PM to celebrate the closing of the ANNUAL LOCAL COLOR exhibit!

This exhibition opened to the public on January 13th and has been on view during ACWC’s gallery hours. This reception will feature brief artists’ talks and the presentation of awards. This year’s exhibit’s special feature includes some GLOW Creatives visual artists. Over 50 pieces are included in this year’s Local Color, with more than half reflecting the 2023 theme “Soooo Fun.”

Local Color is a yearly exhibit that features works in all media created by ACWC’s member artists. 2023’s Local Color theme is “Sooo Fun,” and we are thrilled to kick off the year on this fun note with our outstanding member artists! Awards will be given for President’s Choice, People’s Choice, and Best of Theme. The public is invited to visit the gallery and vote for their favorite piece for the people’s choice award by February 18 during gallery hours.
We are pleased with the number of submissions for this exhibition which had to be expanded into the second gallery because of increased participation from new member artists. More than 50% of the work submitted by artists was created to reflect the 2023 theme.

MY MOTHER, MY DAUGHTER, IS THE SECOND EXHIBIT
on display at the ACWC during February. This small intimate exhibition opens on February 17 in the small black box theatre on the gallery’s second floor and ends on March 1st.

My Mother, My Daughter, takes a little different path from what might be considered the typical Black History Month focus. The exhibit celebrates but also addresses how a regular African American mom’s life influences a daughter and how that influence is handed down to another generation. Although this is the story of one family, many African Americans would validate the similarities. But most important is the role these moms have played in helping to write the stories of their children, their families, their communities, and beyond.

WOMEN IN THE ARTS is a docu-exhibit that will be displayed in the second-floor gallery of the ACWC during March in honor of Women’s History Month. This exhibition celebrates a few of the many regional women who have played a role in shaping arts and culture in the GLOW region.

Women in the Arts exhibition has a soft opening in conjunction with the
ALL COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL ART SHOW on March 3rd and closes with the high school art show award reception on March 31st.

The K-EIGHT GRADE ALL-COUNTY EXHIBITION is currently on display at the YMCA walking track (the ACWC’s largest satellite gallery in Wyoming County). Over 100 pieces of art by Wyoming County’s youngest artists are on display through March 18.

Visits to any ACWC’s gallery are free, but the experience is invaluable!

Please come and see these beautiful exhibits before they close; We look forward to welcoming you!

The Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) has created opportunities to bring arts into their rural communities through programming, grants, and art events for over forty years. Located on Main Street Perry, the ACWC has produced the Letchworth Arts and Crafts Show, one of the largest and highest-rated shows in the region. The ACWC is also Wyoming County’s NYSCA Decentralization Site for Community Arts Grants. For more information on membership or advocacy in the arts, please visit www.artswyco.org.
