Lighthouses for Hospeace

36 Lighthouses 31 Days 331 Tickets

WHAT: A 31-day fundraiser—in memory of Leona J. Bentley and Alice T. Touris—to benefit Hospeace House in Naples, NY.

WHEN: The fundraiser will run from August 1, 2020, 8AM until August 31, 2020 at 8PM.

“My Flutterby Garden” By MARTHA MOSHER

DETAILS: Thirty-five Harbour Lights© lighthouses and one Lenox© lighthouse—part of a lifetime collection, donated by Paul Touris of Buffalo, NY—will be auctioned online beginning at 8AM August 1, 2020. To bid on the lighthouses, go to: www.biddingowl.com/HospeaceHouse.

During the same 31 days, we will be selling raffle tickets for “Storm at Sea”— a queen-sized quilt featuring watercolor images of all thirty-five of the to-be-auctioned Harbour Lights lighthouse figurines. The quilt was meticulously pieced by Leona’s eldest daughter, Deanna Crossgrove, and bound by her youngest daughter, Cherie Frid. Quilting was donated by Marcie Wyant, of Cotton Patch Quilts.

Raffle tickets will also be available for a second quilt: “My Flutterby Garden,” donated by Martha Mosher of Quilted Care (mindfulquilting.com/), after she heard about the fundraiser.

Note: If you are not able to get out due to COVID19 conditions, you can mail a check (Made out to HOSPEACE HOUSE) to Canadice Press, 5584 Canadice Lake Rd., Springwater, NY 14560. Please note number of tickets you are buying and which quilt(s) – along with email or phone number for contacting you if you win – and enclose a return envelope. We will fill out tickets and mail the tear offs to you. You can also use a credit card through Hospeace House.

SOME BACKGROUND
The lighthouses belonged to Todd Touris’ parents, Paul and Alice Touris. After Alice’s death, Paul moved to a smaller residence and some of their lighthouse collection came to us. After our mother’s October-November 2019 stay at Hospeace house, we knew we had found a perfect way to share them—by supporting the people who offered her such loving end-of-life care. As we started working on the online auction, my sister, Deanna Crossgrove, started piecing the accompanying “Storm at Sea” quilt.

Only 331 tickets per quilt will be sold; $5 each or 3 for $10 – need not be present to win.  Winning tickets will be drawn at Hospeace House on September 1, 2020 at 1PM. Please adhere to CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines if you choose to attend the drawing.

Winning bidders for lighthouses should contact Owl Light News / Canadice Press for pick up / delivery arrangements (we can drop off to many areas of the Finger Lakes at no charge. If sent by post, we ask that bidders cover the postage).

To purchase raffle tickets, contact Canadice Press (585-358-1065 / editor@canadicepress.com); or
Hospeace House (585-374-2090 /jennifer@hospeacehouse.org).

*Hosted by Canadice Press / Owl Light News and the Bentley / Touris families.
Proceeds from the fundraiser (minus 5% to BiddingOwl.com for their services) will go directly to Hospeace House, in loving memory of Leona J. Bentley and Alice T. Touris. Special thanks to the creative piecers and quilters, to Paul Touris—for the donation of the lighthouses, and to Todd Touris—for assisting with the online auction.  A very special thank you to Hospeace House (and hospices everywhere) for everything you do!
