The streets were made for chalking

That’s just what they did – for the 7th year!  Check out some of these awesome creations.

Dansville ArtWorks  hosted their seventh annual Chalk Walk & ArtsFest on Saturday, August 4 from10am-2pm.  This annual signature summer street festival is free and open to the public and offers artists an opportunity to chalk the streets with creative art.

There were chalk art creations by returning featured chalk artists Rebecca Crocker and Derek Crocker, along with a host of other community chalk artists all along Main Street.  As part of the event, artists of all ages worked on Chalk Walk 101, making at least 101’ of continuous sidewalk chalk art in the Maxwell Block.

Chalk artists and visitors to this event enjoyed a concert by Steel Alchemy from 11am-2pm and mini art workshops sponsored by Dansville Mini Storage.

Chalk artist Leahana Gilbert (left, adding some final touches to her “Flower and Ladybug” 2018 chalk piece), a 17 year old who grew up in Dansville, shared that she has “always been extremely interested in the arts, specifically ballet and painting. But I’ve been doing some chalk pieces during the sunny days in my own drive way and have participated in the chalk walk for the last 3 years. Art and ballet (more specifically dancing) have been enormous outlets for me.”  Leahana recently I dedicated one of my dances and art pieces to the recent #Metoo movement.  See her dance here. Leahana said she has had more success in dance than visual arts but enjoys the chalk festival.  She added, ” I’m a big nature and animal lover. I do pretty well in school.”

There were other flowers featured at the chalk festival, including these fanciful flowers by artist Ken Hicks, a Dansville CSD Senior.
And this one .
Savannah Burley also drew a flower and Olivia Burley added a cactus to the botanical chalk displays.

Charizard and Bulbasaur from Pokemon were drawn by the Body Addiction Team – who also brought a live snake.

There were trees – like this one by Zoey.
There were snake chalk designs – like this one being worked on by artist Landon Titus, a Dansville CSD freshman.

Rebecca Crocker made a rabbit and Owl .
Derek Crocker did “The Woman with the Pearl Earring.”
Rose Miller added a face.
Rose Miller’s dad Jeff made some balloons, in advance of the balloon festival.

And there was so much more chalk art everywhere – by artists young, and young at heart.
